Why was this removed?

Just outside my house, I was mining a 16x16 area to bedrock. I got to layer 50 so far and when I logged in today the hole was gone - completely filled it as it was before I started. I'm just asking why whoever rolled back my mine thought it would be a good idea to do so. So please answer me:

Who did it?
Why?
Return it to how it was before.
